An IPL handpiece sends broad-spectrum pulses of light into the skin. Filters and settings direct more energy toward targets such as pigment or small visible vessels, which absorb the light and heat. Those targets may darken or fade as the skin recovers. IPL is not a laser; suitable settings depend strongly on skin tone and the concern treated.
